A domain name is used to locate an organisation or other entity on the internet. This is most commonly used for a website address, but it is also used to manage where emails get delivered and other internet services.

For example, yahoo.com, hotmail.com and ilisys.com.au are all domain names, whereas www.ilisys.com.au designates the world wide web server for ilisys.com.au.
