Ilisys - Australia’s first carbon neutral web host

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Ilisys today announced that it is the first web hosting company in Australia to achieve carbon neutrality.

Ilisys hosts websites and email for over 18,000 Australian businesses, groups, and individuals which uses more than 200,000 KWh of electricity each year. However, because Ilisys uses 100% renewable solar and wind energy to power its headquarters and data centre it prevents the equivalent of over 140,000 KG of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere. Ilisys further reduced its carbon footprint to zero by planting trees to offset the greenhouse gas emissions it generates through other business activities such as staff commuting and travel.

Australia is the highest per capita emitter of greenhouse gases amongst developed nations (greenpower.gov.au) and Matt Mulligan, Director of Product Development at Ilisys, says the entire business community, as well as individuals, can take action now to reduce Australia’s growing greenhouse debt and minimise our impact on the environment.

“People may not realise that hosting a website contributes to greenhouse gas emissions,” said Mulligan. “However now that we are Australia’s first carbon neutral web host, people have the option of reducing greenhouse gas emissions just by choosing us as their hosting provider.”

“While the environmental impact of a single computer isn’t earth-shattering, our infrastructure supports the websites and email of over 18,000 Australian individuals, groups and businesses, and this is significant,” Mulligan continued. “Since Ilisys owns and manages its own network infrastructure and data centre we have been able to choose an environmentally responsible way of operating it while maintaining the quality and reliability of service that our customers expect.”

New Toolkit features

Monday, October 31st, 2005

At Ilisys we’re committed to constantly improving our services. There are several new features available in the Toolkit we’d like to tell you about.

  • Automatic subdomain creation
Through the Toolkit you now can enable automatic subdomains for Linux domains. This means subdomains such as test.mydomainname.com.au will show the content of /www/test.
  • Usage information for storage and transfers
There are expanded Toolkit facilities for viewing storage and transfers information from either a Reseller or Package Manager perspective.
  • Customisable warning thresholds for storage and transfers
As an Account Manager, there is the ability to set warning thresholds for storage and transfers. Report alerts detailing hosting accounts exceeding a threshold are emailed to the Account Manager on a daily basis.
  • Simplified Reseller sales process
The sales process for Resellers has been simplified - enter the domain name and relevant domain registration information and you’re done!
  • You have full control over the DNS management of your domains
This allows you to create CNAME and A records. ‘CNAME’ records allow you to create a record that points to another record. ‘A’ records allow you to create a record that points to a specific IP address.
Soon we will be releasing direct editing of white label dns records and custom MX records, until then please contact Tech Support to enable this.

Please feel welcome to suggest any new features that would improve your hosting experience. Drop us a line at service@ilisys.com.au or talk directly to us by calling 1800 999 618.

$50 worth of Google AdWords. Free.

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

Use a free $50 Google AdWords credit to learn how easy it is to find new customers.

With AdWords you write your own ads, choosing keywords to help Google match your ads to your audience. You also get to decide where your ads appear, and you can define your own target area. Your ads show up on Google almost instantly, and you only pay when people click on your ad. In other words, you only pay when your advertising works. And, thanks to the $50 ad credit that Ilisys is pleased to offer through a special arrangement with Google, it won’t cost you a penny to get started.

When you’re ready to get started, the friendly AdWords professionals on our staff will get in touch with you to help you set up your campaign.

Transfer allowances increased

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

As the average Ilisys website has grown, so has its traffic.

To reflect this growth, the base monthly transfer allowance has been increased to 10 GB. Transfer allowances of 25, 50, 75 or 100 GB are also available.

These allowance upgrades have been applied to all current hosting packages and have been made possible by the close relationships we maintain with Optus, our primary tier-1 bandwidth provider.

Data storage increased

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

Each month, Ilisys customers put more content online and use more data storage.

To allow for this continued growth, Ilisys data storage allowances have been increased, effective today. The base data storage allowance was increased to 500 MB, while data storage allowances may now be upgraded to any multiple of 1 GB.

Data storage allowances continue to cover all data except that required for logs or Urchin reports.

All Linux hosted data continues to be backed up hourly and may be SnapRestored using your Toolkit or by contacting Technical Support.
