What is GreenPower?
At Ilisys we use 100% Natural Power to run our data centre and headquarters. Natural Power is a government accredited GreenPower product.GreenPower is energy from renewable wind and solar sources in Australia and produces no greenhouse gas emissions in its generation.
Why we use GreenPower
Australia is the highest per capita emitter of greenhouse gases amongst developed nations. And it is increasingly likely that we will be held collectively accountable for our growing greenhouse debt. It makes sense for us to minimise our impact on the environment.Ilisys uses more than 200,000 KWh of electricity each year, serving websites and managing email for 18,000 Australian businesses. By choosing Natural Power, Ilisys is reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a healthier environment.
Offsetting our CO2 emissions
Even though we use renewable energy, Ilisys is still responsible for 30 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. Our staff commute 25,000 km annually and fly a further 56,000 km around Australia. We recycle what we can and donate our old computers, but some waste is inevitable.To offset the emissions from our commutes, travel and waste, Ilisys plants trees through Carbon Neutral. Trees act as a carbon sink and will trap CO2 until they start to die. The trees that we plant also restore atmospheric oxygen, help to control salinity and moderate the climate.

I run my power station off solar panels and a wind mill. I do have a back-up petrol generator, but I only need that for extreme power usage or power failure. Keep the freak flag flying.

Technology has always been at the forefront of our society's success and by going carbon neutral, you have shown that technology can work without destroying Mother Nature further or at least technology can have a major role in bringing about an awareness of the catastrophe of climate change if we don't act now.

We did all this some years ago, and it is good to see you following suit. We buy green power, recycle everything (including old computers, paper, PET and HDPE, glass, aluminium and lunch-room food scraps). We also offset the carbon emissions of all Company vehicles, as well as the personal vehicles of all staff, so I guess we are carbon negative!

I'm proud to be associated with Ilisys. We too are doing our bit for the environment by using low energy fluoro lamp replacements and having a low power day on Wednesdays with candles at night and no ovens or TV use. We also have water saving devices in the garden and water only once every 2 weeks. Keep up the good work. If we all do a bit at work and at home we'll make a difference.
